That everyone pretends like we don’t identify with the “others” recovering. They’re worse off. They’re not like me. But IIII’m high functioning. This (sobriety) is a choice. I don’t need this, I want this. These are all lies we tell ourselves to feel better and safe, though. To feel less cheesy and cliche in our sobriety journey. Truth is: we have all been brainwashed. By ourselves. The Devil. Society. We have poisoned ourselves & conditioned ourselves to turn to the substance rather than feel… rather than to be bored. Rather than to lean on community. We DO struggle and no matter the extent of our addiction— we ARE addicted and that’s one hell of a chain to break. It may seem easy now but there will be a day we will fall… we think so much about our DOC and will be tempted. But, we cannot fall for it and must remember: we are all the same. Addicted…
